BIRD TAXIDERMY CLASS

Students must want to learn how to preserve birds. The program will enable the student to be more efficient and accurate in preserving birds. The curriculum includes preserving all types of birds. Mounting flying and standing, two birds. Pheasant, Mallard duck or turkey.

Day 1 - Instructor will lead a demonstration on how to skin bird and instruct how to use bird-fleshing machine. Degreasing, washing of the birds will also be covered. Instructor will lead a demonstration sewing holes in bird and measuring bird for body, neck and head. Teach how to purchase body parts.

Day 2 - Instruct how to build wood wool bird body and how to set eyes in clay on bird head. Instruct how to dry bird and mounting bird.

Day 3 - Instruction is the same as first day with the student working on the alternate specimen.

Day 4 - Instruction is the same as second day with the student working on the alternate specimen.

Day 5 - Instructor will lead a demonstration on how to finish birds. Students finish birds.

Day 6 - Instructor will lead a demonstration how to freeze dry turkey head in conventional freezer. Critique bird mounts. Fill out evaluation survey sheet
